Ceri Richards is one of the best known artists to have been born in Wales. He studied first at the Swansea School of Art and after three years won a scholarship to the Royal College in London. He taught for a while in Cardiff at the art school but returned to London where he began making prints, first linocuts but later lithographs which became his métier. In 1959 he began working with Stanley Jones of the Curwen Press and made some of his important prints there.
